Saint Hildegard von Bingen was a 12th century abbess of Rupertsberg. Her conlang, Lingua Ignota is one of the earliest known existing conlangs. She is thus also one of the very first known conlangers. She was canonized by the Catholic church on 10 May 2012 by Pope Benedict XVI.

Her feast day, 17 September, is recognised among some conlangers as being a conlanging holiday. Following a proposal by the Conlanging Librarian in 2010, it is not uncommon in the community to be wished a happy St. Hildegard's day.
