An artlang is a conlang created for artistic purposes, as opposed to an auxlang, which is for international communication, or an engelang, which is created to test a theory or hypothesis. Many, if not most artlangs are naturalistic fictional languages which are meant to be spoken in a conworld.

Among the most famous artlangs are Tolkien's Elvish languages Quenya and Sindarin.

There are many artlangs which are detailed on Frathwiki, and a partial list is available here .
