Altaic

Altaic is a proposed language family thought to consist of the Turkic, Mongolic and Tungusic language families; some authors also include Korean and Japanese. While the languages in question are typologically similar, are spoken in neighbouring areas, and appear to share much vocabulary, most linguists now consider them a case of convergence rather than a valid family.
