An a priori conlang is a conlang whose vocabulary is primarily not based on a natural language. A conlang whose vocabulary is primarily based on a natural language is called a posteriori.

In the auxlang community, the term a priori is often used in a stricter sense, namely for a language that is based on a set of first principles (see philosophical language).

A large number of a priori conlangs have a description hosted on FrathWiki. To see a (mostly complete) list of the available ones, please click here.
