Kaitetaiber
Kaitetaiber is a city located in Ofalna Province, in its east near the boundary with Enimdanoi Province. Mostly known for being a university town, it houses the University of Kaitetaiber, which was founded in 1482. The city now has a population of 77,372 inhabitants.
Name
Kai te Taiber means "Firm Bridge", and refers to the origin of the town at a natural ford of the Camizis river, from which it also derived much of its past prosperity as a milling and transport town. The oldest bridge still extant now dates from 1738, known as the Old Bridge, and is south of the city centre; in total there are now 6 bridges across the Camizis.
History
While Kaitetaiber is now mostly known for its world-famous university, the history of the city stretches a considerable way farther back. The position of Kaitetaiber, in an expanse of fields and lying along a major route south from the mountains, made it an important hub of trade. The earliest known mention of the town dates from the early 8th century, when it was known as Hairmatagusa, or "Stallion's Ford".
