Gelanese

Gelanese is a fictional language mentioned in Tom Godwin's 1954 science fiction short story "The Cold Equations".

We learn of this language as Marilyn Lee Cross, the teen-age stowaway on Barton's ship, the Stardust, explains to Barton how she managed to make it onto his spacecraft: "I was practicing my Gelanese on the native girl who does the cleaning in the Ship's Supply office when someone came in with an order for supplies for the survey crew on Woden." No words or sentences from Gelanese are mentioned, although it is mentioned that Marilyn's brother Gerry is paying for her "special linguistcs classes". In Godwin's twenty-second century, there is apparently a whole world of extraterrestrial languages to learn.
