Rhedeka (Autonym: Ρἓδῆκα [r̥è.dɛ̂.kā]) is the ancient language of the Rheda (Autonym: Ρἓδα [r̥è.dā]), it is the descendant of the poorly attested Hroïdaïkan language, it is believed to be a Pre-Indo-European language, thus predating Greek in the area, though it was eventually superseded by Greek as the main language of the region, leading to many inheritances.
Etymology
The language's name comes from Hroïdaïkan "ΡΗΟΗΙΔΑΗΙϜΚΑΑ", composed of "ΡΗΟΗΙΔΑΑ" and "-ΗΙϜΚΑΑ", equivalent to modern "Ῥὲδα" and "-ἵκα".
The origin of "Ρἓδα" is debated, some suggest Hroïdaïkan "ΡΕΑΑ" + "ΟΗΙΔΔΗΙΕ", but this would likely give "ΡΕΑΟΗΙΔΔΗΙΕ", "ΡΕΟΗΙΔΔΗΙΕ", or "ΡΟΗΙΔΔΗΙΕ", not the expected "ΡΗΟΗΙΔΑΑ". The "ΗΙΕ" to "ΑΑ" may be explained by a gender change of masculine to feminine. The missing initial "Η" makes the etymology somewhat doubtful, but not necessarily implausible, as it could arise from an unexplained phenomenon where names for ethnicities spontaneously gain an initial "Η".
