There are however some traces hinting to VSO order not being original, but a subsequent development from a ''SOV'' order. Among these traces there are the position of the negative adverb, and the position of the infinitival form as a direct object of other verbs.

Jeʂtəra is one of the languages belonging to Piti language family. It stems directly from Proto-Piti language. It is spoken in the pre-classic period and becomes extinct before the classical period, without giving rise to any daughter language. It has a mixed syllabic-logographic scripts.

Typological structure

Jeʂtəra is a morphologically agglutinative language, with an additional but strongly marked introflexive feature, realized in verbal roots.

The basic word order is essentially VSO (Verb-Subject-Object).

līloṕət́ fūkaliə mūke
(the) person sees (the) bull

The entire system is set according to typological parameters of the head-modifier (or head-initial) type:

  • verb-object
  • preposition-noun
  • noun-adjective
  • noun-relative clause

There are however some traces hinting to VSO order not being original, but a subsequent development from a SOV order. Among these traces there are the position of the negative adverb, and the position of the infinitival form as a direct object of other verbs.
