Ỹhɛ is one of the languages belonging to Sākdi language family. It belongs to the branch, named Eβmiʔ languages and it stems directly from Eβmiʔ language. It has an alphabetical script.

Typological structure

Ỹhɛ is mostly a morphologically isolating language, with an additional but strongly marked agglutinative feature in derivative morphology.

In an isolating languages semantical or grammatical morphemes are almost coincident with single words, and they do not change or add any flecting affix to specify their role in a sentence or their number:

müɟa
wolf, a wolf, wolves, the wolf, the wolves

However, words usually cannot have more than one grammatical role in a sentence.

The basic word order is essentially SVO (Subject-Verb-Object).

 vuɣner moce muɟa
(the) person sees (the) cow

The entire system is set according to typological parameters of the head-modifier (or head-initial) type:

  • verb - object
  • preposition - noun
  • noun - adjective
  • noun - relative clause
