Deities

The Silent God

Originally, the supreme deity was conceived as being the Silent God, the god of death. The Silent God gets that name from the fact that he is perceived as never speaking, and preferring silence. His priests take a vow of silence, and communicate with a signed language known as the Sacred Hand. They take care to produce the absolute minimum amount of sound within the temples and shrines devoted to their god. The Silent God is seen as being a god without mercy, but also without malice. He impartially deals death to all, including, ultimately, even the other gods. He is a being of great patience, content in the knowledge that in the end, he will win. Many outsiders perceive this as being a very bleak worldview. However, it is not as bleak as it may seem at first glance. Followers of his cult believe that the purpose of life is to live a life of great beauty for the Silent God. Art is held as an act of supreme worship, and love and friendship are seen as a form of art. Death, far from being a dark painful end, is the final completion of a Supreme Work of Art, the presenting of your life as an artwork to him, and the chance to begin a new artwork, in a new life.

The Purple Lady

The Purple Lady is the complement of the Silent God. She is the goddess of life, named for the purple color of the native plant life of Galhaf. She was originally perceived as a lesser deity, but today, a more dualistic view has developed, with the Silent God and the Purple Lady seen as complimentary to each other. Even, in some views, as lovers and partners. They are sometimes portrayed as playing a game against each other, with the game being the world.
